More than just being a fun way to spend your time on the computer, completing paid surveys is a great way to earn some extra income to help you pay the bills. So how much you expect to earn in a month? Well it depends on a few things:

1. The number of paid survey companies you have subscribed to. The more companies you subscribe to, the more you will earn! You can find a great list of over 25 Australian Paid Survey Companies at OzSurveys.org.
2. The type of incentive the paid survey companies offers. Some companies only offer entries into exclusive competitions. While you may not earn straight away, the exclusive nature of these competitions means that you have a good chance in the future.
3. Whether you fit the paid survey company’s target audience. Survey companies are selective about who they issue survey invitations to. Sometimes if you fit into an age group with few members in, you will receive more surveys offers.
4. Whether you get invited to join a focus group. If you are a member of a focus group, you can expect to earn between $50 and $150/hr for your time. Focus groups, however, will require you to travel to a certain meeting location.
5. What the survey topic is about. Some survey topics are about more profitable industries than others. You can expect to earn more from a 20minute survey on local real estate agents than you can for a 20 minute survey critiquing TV commercials.
6. The length of the survey. The longer the survey, the more you can expect to be paid! In general I would expect you to earn around $15-$20per hour for your work on the lounge with a coffee in hand!

But how does this work out in practice? Well in general I am earning an extra $30-50 a month for around an hour’s work on my home computer. I also get a couple of dozen exclusive competition entries to potentially win thousands of dollars. Hey, it covers my broadband charges for the month!
